Major Local Employers

The Carrier Corporation and Carrier Transicold, all part of United Technologies (Pratt and Witney and Otis Elevator are not present in Syracuse), is one of the Syracuse area largest employers. Other major employers include Niagara Mohawk, the main utility company, Syracuse University, SUNY Health Science Center at Syracuse, Bristol-Myers Squibb (pharmaceuticals) and Lockheed Martin.

Welch Allyn, located in Skaneateles employs engineers, as does Crouse-Hinds, and the Pyramid Company in Syracuse, owns and operates many regional shopping malls and is active in other forms of commercial real estate. Pyramid is heavily involved the Syracuse Lakefront Development, which includes a regional mall, aquarium, housing and office space.

Employment in the medical field can be found at University Hospital, Crouse Hinds Hospital, The VA Hospital, Community Hospital. One of Syracuse's largest health care facilities, offering inpatient, outpatient, and emergency services is St. Joseph's Hospital. There are also many regional medical centers springing up all around the Syracuse area.

In the northern suburbs, Anheuser-Busch,Inc. makes beer and in the eastern suburbs, Stickley manufactures fine wood furniture, including its popular Mission Oak range.

Just north of the airport is a relatively new and really neat company called CABLExpress. They are growing fast, are a fun group to work with and are well worth checking out.
